How the Travel Subsidy Works

Qubic will subsidize up to €650 per student, covering:

  • Up to €200 for flights
  • Up to €360 for hotel accommodation
  • Up to €100 for meals outside the hackathon
  • Up to €100 for local transportation and other expenses


Important Notes:

  • Students must book their own travel and accommodation
  • Reimbursement is provided after the event, upon submission of receipts and verification of attendance
  • Any additional costs must be covered by the student or university

Who Can Apply?

  • Students based in European countries outside of Spain.
  • Must have a strong interest in C++, Python, Java, or blockchain. development.
  • No prior job experience required
  • All selected students must attend in person.

How the Subsidy Works

  1. Apply Now – Fill out the application form.
  2. Selection Process – Qubic will review applications based on technical background and motivation.
  3. Travel Assistance – Selected students will be eligible for reimbursement of travel expenses up to €650, paid in $QUBIC after the hackathon.
  4. Attend the Hackathon – Compete, build, and connect in Madrid.

International Universities FAQs

Do universities need to arrange travel for students? No. Students are responsible for making their own travel arrangements, though universities are encouraged to provide support.
Can faculty members participate? Yes. Professors and university representatives can apply to:
  • Mentor student teams
  • Host a workshop on blockchain, AI, or decentralized computing
How will students be selected? Applications will be reviewed based on technical background, motivation, and diversity of skills.
What programming languages will be used? Students are encouraged to have experience in C++, Python, or Java. A developer toolkit, including testnet access, will be provided.
What is the challenge students will be working on? Challenge details will be announced shortly before the event and will focus on blockchain, AI, IoT, and digital transformation.
What happens if a selected student cannot attend?

Their spot will be given to another student on the waiting list.

When will students receive their reimbursement? Reimbursements will be processed after the event, once attendance is verified and valid receipts are submitted.
What happens after the hackathon? Winning teams may be invited to join Qubic’s incubation program, gaining access to funding, mentorship, and real-world application opportunities.

General Hackathon FAQs

What is a hackathon? A hackathon is a social coding event where programmers, designers, and developers collaborate to solve a problem and compete for cash prizes. It is an intense, time-limited competition where teams work to create functional solutions
Who can participate? Are there any prerequisites? Anyone can participate. While coding experience is beneficial, teams also need presenters, designers, and strategists with strong problem-solving skills
Can I participate remotely? No, this event is fully on-site in Madrid
Is there an age requirement? Participants must be at least 18 years old. ID verification will be required at registration
Do I need a team? Teams of three to five people are required. If you do not have a team, the event organizers will assign you to one
What skills do I need?

During registration, participants must select a role:

  • Developer
  • Designer
  • Business Strategist

A bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience is recommended, but prior job experience is not required

How much does it cost? Participation is free
Do I need to bring my own computer? Yes, computers are not provided. Participants must bring their own laptop
Can I stay overnight? Yes, there will be a designated area with bunk beds for participants who wish to stay overnight
Will food be provided? Yes, food and beverages will be available throughout the event
What challenges will we be solving? The challenge details will be announced shortly before the event. Participants should expect to work on blockchain, AI, IoT, and digital transformation projects
How will projects be judged? Teams will present their solutions in a preliminary round where mentors and staff will provide feedback. Selected projects will advance to the final judging round at the award ceremony
Who will be judging? The judging panel will include industry experts, including engineers, AI scientists, and blockchain specialists. The full panel will be announced closer to the event date
Who owns the work created during the hackathon? The organizers and sponsors do not claim ownership of any submitted projects. Participants retain full rights to their work
Will winners get a job or contract? Winners do not automatically receive a job offer. However, those awarded an incubation prize will have the opportunity to further develop their project with funding and strategic support
Are there other upcoming hackathons? Qubic is planning additional events in other locations. More details will be shared in the future
